Dr. Garg treats adults with solid tumours and blood cancers. This includes breast, gastrointestinal, lung, head and neck, genitourinary and gynaecological cancers, as well as lymphoma, leukaemia and multiple myeloma. Medical oncology covers treatment given as medicines — chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy — and works alongside surgery and radiotherapy where those are needed.

Treatment depends entirely on the type of cancer, its stage, the results of pathology and molecular testing, and the patient's general health. Depending on those findings, treatment may involve chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy or a combination, alongside supportive care to manage side effects. The plan is discussed with the patient and family before treatment begins.

Yes. Blood cancers — leukaemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma — are managed as part of the practice, including diagnosis and staging, systemic therapy, monitoring of response and management of treatment-related complications.

CML is a blood cancer caused by an abnormal fusion gene called BCR::ABL1, which arises from an exchange of material between chromosomes 9 and 22 (the Philadelphia chromosome). This drives uncontrolled production of white blood cells. CML is treated with oral medicines called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which block the abnormal protein. Most patients who take these medicines regularly and attend follow-up can expect a life expectancy close to that of the general population. Treatment response is monitored with a blood test that measures BCR::ABL1 levels on the International Scale, checked at defined intervals following international guidelines.

Chemotherapy is medicine given to destroy or control cancer cells. It is usually given in cycles, often in a day-care unit, with rest periods in between. Before each cycle, blood counts and organ function are checked, and the dose is calculated for the individual patient. Side effects are monitored at every visit and managed with supportive medicines. The number of cycles and the drugs used depend on the cancer being treated.

Targeted therapy uses medicines directed at specific molecular changes found in a tumour, which is why molecular or genetic testing of the tumour is often required first. Immunotherapy works differently — it helps the body's own immune system recognise and act against cancer cells. Neither is suitable for every cancer or every patient; suitability depends on the diagnosis and on test results.

Yes. Lymphoma assessment, staging, systemic treatment and follow-up are part of the practice, for both Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Yes. Second-opinion consultations are available. Please bring all original reports, including the biopsy or pathology report with block or slide details, all imaging with the actual films or CDs, blood test results, and a written summary of any treatment already received.

Please bring the biopsy or pathology report and, if available, the tissue blocks or slides; all imaging studies with films or CDs rather than reports alone; recent blood test results; discharge summaries and records of any previous treatment; a current list of all medicines including any alternative or herbal preparations; and details of any insurance or government health scheme you are covered under. If possible, come with a family member.
