Blood cancers require different diagnostic work-up from solid tumours, typically including bone marrow examination, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular testing. Care includes establishing the precise diagnosis and risk category, planning treatment accordingly, managing the infection risk and transfusion requirements that accompany treatment, and monitoring response with the specific tests relevant to each disease. Where a patient requires a treatment not available at this centre — such as stem cell transplantation or CAR-T cell therapy — referral to an appropriate transplant centre is arranged and shared follow-up is maintained.
